Punters are backing Blue Diamond Preview runner up, Grand Britannia, to turn the tables on Sepoy in the big one, with one Sportingbet Australia punter backing him to win $100,000.
The two horses clash again in the Blue Diamond Prelude on Saturday and the money suggests it might be a closer thing this time around.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the Robbie Laing trained colt had shortened from $41 to $21 for the Blue Diamond after a number of good bets were on him.
“We took one best of $80,000 to $2000 each way and there has been a few other reasonable sized nibbles for him as well,†Sullivan said.
“He was beaten 3.5 lengths by Sepoy in the Preview but the step back up to 1100m should suit him.
Sportingbet has installed Sepoy as a $1.60 favourite for the Saturday’s Prelude ahead of Arctic Command at $6.00 while Grand Britannia is $13.
“Sepoy will be heavily backed again after his dominant win in the Prelude and the win by Delago’s Lad stamping the form of his debut win,†Sullivan said.
“But the early money for a number of other runners to win the Blue Diamond suggests he won’t have it all his own way on Saturday.
“There has been good Blue Diamond money for Grand Britannia, Boys On Tour and Arctic Command so it shapes to be a more competitive race than the $1.60 suggests and I will be looking to lay Sepoy at those odds.â€
